Description

The building dates back to the time of the Normans (11th century) and was perhaps erected by Bohemond returning from the Crusades as local tradition tells. It was considered, without reason, a baptistery and some even believe that was erected  on a primitive early Christian temple. Located at the end of the medieval road network to the Holy Land, the Church of San Giovanni al Sepolcro in Brindisi is evidence of how much relations with the East, during the Crusades, influenced European architecture. The Brindisi building, in fact, has a profound symbolic value.
